————————————————————————
Setup a root user/password for database server. You can just use “root” for user and same for password too. It won’t matter since you would only use it in your local Machine.

————————————————————————

————————————————————————

That’s all. if you had done all correctly last screen will be link this.

————————————————————————

Now you have to configure php with MySQL. For that open the php.ini file. ( C:\WINDOWS\php.ini ). and remove the ” ; ” which has in front of “extension=php_mysql.dll” as the screen print shown below. now restart Apcahe server.

————————————————————————

To Manege data bases we use phpMyAdmin. first download the latest version from www.phpmyadmin.net and unzip it. Then rename the folder as “myadmin”. Copy this folder into your “web” folder. ( C:\web\ ).

————————————————————————

Now open your web browser ( IE or Firefox ) and type this ” http://127.0.0.1/myadmin/ “. See whether you get screen below. If you get the message bellow , it means everything is all right and you only have to configure MySql user name and password with MyAdmin.

————————————————————————

To change password to yours goto “libraries” folder in MYAdmin folder and open the file called ” config.default.php “. ( C:\web\myadmin\libraries\ ). There you have to find the place to insert root pssword. Use Find option to find ” ['Servers'][$i]['password'] =” “. and insert the password into space between quotation marks as screen shot shows.

————————————————————————

Now goback to web browser and refresh the page when you got that message. Now page should look like this.

————————————————————————

Thats all. Sorry You might feel some steps are too basic and really unnecessary but I want to make sure all steps covered so even a newbie can get installed it without a problem.

Installing PHP 5 in Windows XP is not hard at all. There are so many ways to do it but here we are going to do it in pretty easy way. You will able to setup PHP 5 in your Computer within 10 minutes. First let’s see what you need.
01.	A computer which runs Windows XP
02.	Apache Web Server ( If you don’t have it installed already here’s a guide )
03.	PHP 5.2.6 zip package ( Windows binary )
That’s all you need! You can get configured PHP with Apache without any pre-knowledge with this tutorial. To make things easy All steps have screen prints, So you can understand things clearly.

Now go to php.ini file again and tell it where it can find its extension folder. Use the Find Next option to find “extension_dir” and change the pat to “c:\php\ext”

Download PHP zip package from www.php.net . Go to the site and click on link called “Downloads“. Click on “ PHP 5.2.6 zip package ” link under “Windows Binaries”. Download It and unzip the content.

Now copy the folder “php-5-26-win32” into C drive of your hard drive. Then rename it as “php”.

Now you have to make a virtual host folder to put your php files and web pages. Make a folder named “web” in your C drive. You can see the folder “web” in above screen shot.

Now go to the Apache folder (C:\apache) and go to the sub folder “conf”. Open the file called “conf” in notepad. Click on top of the page then go to edit menu and click “Find Next”. Insert word “DocumentRoot”. And click on “Find Next” button. You will find the word in page highlighted. There change the path to C:/web as screen shop shows (below)

Now restart Apache (Click on Apache Monitor icon on system tray and select restart). Go to your favorite web browser (Firefox, Opera or whatever) Write http://127.0.0.1/ on address bar and click enter. If you see a page then your virtual folder is working! (I forgot to tell make an html page and name it has index.html and put it in folder called “web” in your C drive). If everything ok you will see the content of that html page on your browser.

Now in PHP folder find the file called “php.ini-dist”, move it to the Windows folder and rename it as “php.ini”.

Now you have to tell PHP how to find the vertual folder. Open the php.ini file in notePad and find “doc_root”(you can use the Find Next option in Note pad to find it). Edit it as this “ doc_root=”C:/web” ”.

Now go to Apache folder then to conf folder and open httpd.conf file again. There copy and paste 2 lines where screen shot shows.

LoadModule php5_module “c:/php/php5apache2_2.dll”
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php

Now you have to add .php extension to Apache server. In same file ( httpd.conf ), use Find Next option to locate “DirectoryIndex” directive. There add “ index.php “ after “ index.html” as shown below.

Now go to php.ini file again and tell it where it can find its extension folder. Use the Find Next option to find “extension_dir” and change the pat to “c:\php\ext”

Now restart Apache! And if it restarted without problem then you have PHP installed and configured in your computer. Sometimes you might need to restart the computer before things start work. If Apache is giving you an error message then follow all steps again and see if anything has gone wrong.
Last step. If Apache is working fine now open black note Pad page and save it as info.php in your virtual host folder (C:\web) make sure you select Save as type as “all” when you save the file. Now on it write this and save again.
<? Phpinfo(); ?>
Now open your web browser and type http://127.0.0.1/info.php. If you can see the page below then your installation is successful!

If you want to learn PHP or if you are a PHP programmer then running Apache server in your work PC makes your life lot easy. Installing Apache web server in a windows XP machine is not hard. Here I’m explaining how to install Apache on windows XP step by step with screen prints to understand things better. If you are a experienced php developer you might find some steps are too easy and unnecessary but I’m mainly targeting this for starters. I know how hard it was when it tried to do it by my self without taking any help. It was still hard even trying to follow online tutorials because most authors had skiped some steps and some had forgotten some important steps. So lets do it step by step and Install/configure Apache Web server in XP.

01. Download apache http server from www.apache.org ( version 2.2.9 win32 windows installer ). Download the one called ” Win32 Binary without crypto (no mod_ssl) (MSI Installer) “.

02. Run the installer file.

03. Follow Steps shown in Screen prints

If everything has gone well then you will see Apache Monitor Button in your system tray with a green arrow in middle of it. Like in the screen shot below.

To make sure web server is working well. Goto your web browser and type http://localhost/ or http://127.0.0.1. You will see apache default page if you have installed it correctly !

Well if you want to put your web pages then goto the folder called “htdocs” inside Apache folder. But still you can’t use php files since you haven’t installed and configured php yet !

Most of the time we want all search engines to spider our websites and index all pages. Because it is very important to search engine optimization. But There are time when we doesn’t want search engines to crowl our web sites. Times like if the site is still developing or you have made a diplicate of your original site for testing purposes you don’t want search engines to spider these web sites. The best way to stop it is using robot.txt file. The reason is, if you allow search engines to crawl these duplicate sites or pages, would be considered duplicate content by Google and other search engines

This is how to stop all search engines spidering your site. Just make a text file called robot and put these lines ;

User-agent: *
Disallow: /

How to tells all crawlers not to enter into some directories of a website

User-agent: *
Disallow: /cgi-bin/
Disallow: /images/
Disallow: /tmp/
Disallow: /test/

How to tell a specific crawler not to enter one specific directory

User-agent: Googlebot
Disallow: /DirectoryName/

How to tell all crawlers not to enter one specific file

User-agent: *
Disallow: /directory/file.html

I think that’s enough for you to get a pretty good idea about how to use robot.txt file. It can be very useful in times. Specially having a robots.txt file is much preferred over ‘nofollow’ links.

Last Saturday our Manga Forums Web Hosting provider send us a mail asking us to move the forum to another web hosting place because it takes more server resources than his reseller account can offer. He gave us 48 hours and recommend use to go for a VPS ( Virtual Dedicated Server ). But since this site is not giving income or has no revenue spending 30 USD per month is a NO. Also almost all shared web hosting providers don’t like this kind of sites which has lot of data base activities and take lot of server resources. So we hadn’t had many options. Also it was weekend so it made things harder.

So the best choice we could found at that time was Godaddy shared Web hosting. Good things about Godaddy shared Hosting are cheap prices(4.29/mo) , 10 GB web Space, 300 GB Transfer, 10 MySQL Databases etc. Bad things are no cpanel ( it take little time to understand their own contorl panel ), Their web statistics program is not good at all ( miss aw stats ), Their FAQs and help files are useless ( Better search in Google or post in webmaster forums for help ), Everything is different than in normal web hosting control panels like Cpanel or Direct Admin.

It took nearly whole day for me to figure out everything. But at end I realised its not that bad when you know how to do it and what to do. I really miss Cpanel when it comes to backups and Awstats. For Awstat Google Anlytic is the alternative.

Something I realised when I d searched Google for Godaddy Hosting problems I encountered is that Many face same set of common problems like How to Setup sub domains, How to find the MySql Host ect. So I guess I ll Try to make set of posts about these common Godaddy Web Hosting problems.

Well Godaddy Web hosting is not that bad as peope say. But there are things you miss like cpanel. Its Just you have to take time and understand their system. Their uptime is really great and Godaddy shared Hosting package is worth its price. They are one of the best cheap hosting providers you can find today. Specailly if you have a big site with lot of traffic but less or no income to go for a VPS or Dedicated server Then Godaddy hosting is one good option.

Choosing a Good web hosting company is one of the main headaches a webmaster would have. Specially if the web site gives you a good income. Every minute your website stay online is important. Main thing everyone would concerned is the price. But price is not the only thing matters here. here nice little article about other things you should pay attention when you are going to choose a web host.

1. Understand the differing types of hosts: shared, collocated, unmanaged dedicated, and managed dedicated. Is your site brand new with little traffic? In the event your site is a newer domain, you won’t need the raw power of a dedicated server unless your site is resource intensive which can include: streaming, video’s, proxies and even linking to videos as well can cause a high load on Apache and the CPU(s).

2. Go for stability, not just size. Just because the host if offering you unmetered and unlimited space, doesn’t mean you should soley base your decision on that. What good is that account to you when your site is down or the server is overloaded? Research how long the hosting business has been in operation. See if they have recently changed ownership, and if they show positive cash flow.

3. The possession of fully redundant data centers. If you are considering doing business with a smaller hosting vendor, ensure that they have adequate power and connectivity capabilities. Inquire as to the number of lines the facility has. Do they possess an on-site generator? Does the generator receive regular checks and maintenance? What is the average utilization of the connections available?

4. How skilled is their staff? When you need customer service of a technical nature, you need it immediately, right? Find out the availability of their systems administrators. Send them a support ticket and see how fast they respond.

5. Other customer’s reviews of the hosting services. Same as any business, the hosting vendor should be able to provide good references.

6. Is the potential host flexible? In the future, your needs may change. Can you upgrade services should the need arise?

7. This step of course, is optional. Make sure that the host does not have blacklisted IPs. The host that you want to do business with would not be one that promotes illegal sites, spammers, or other security issues. You are considering associating your business with this host. You could always ask them what web server they plan to put you on.

8. Begin with and maintain a clear and written understanding of all services and all charges for them. If questions still remain or some terms are unclear it is strongly advised that you ask for clarification before signing up for anything.

If you do your research before beginning business, you will find a better avenue to the successful hosting, and thereby promotion, of your online business. Take your time in making this important decision.

A sitemap is a little-known secret to enhancing your Web site’s position in the search engine listings. No, it’s not a killer secret that will draw in thousands of new visitors overnight, but it is an important addition to your toolset, and not hard to implement. This article will tell you why you need a sitemap, and how to create one and submit it to the search engines.

The term “sitemap” can refer to two different things. Many large, complex Web sites provide a visual sitemap that visitors can use for quick navigation, if they already know roughly where they want to go. If your site is large or complex, you should provide one of these sitemaps for your visitors.

But this article is about the other kind of sitemap: The kind that is made for the search engines, like Google, to use in indexing your site. There are several forms that these sitemaps can take, but we’ll get to that a little later.

First of all, let’s consider why you even need a sitemap. Google and the other search engines will index your site even if you don’t have a sitemap. However, there are four main advantages to having a sitemap:

1. If your site uses non-HTML links, such as Macromedia Flash menus or JavaScript menus, the search engines will not be able to follow these links, and so they will not find all of your pages. A code-driven site must use a sitemap.

2. A sitemap tells the search engines which pages on your site are more important, and which are less important. This prevents the less important pages from competing with your own pages in the listings.

3. A sitemap tells the search engines which pages on your site are updated more frequently than others. This enables the search engines to ignore your static pages, increasing the likelihood that they will have the most current data on your most dynamic pages.

4. A sitemap enables you to tell the search engines when you have added or updated your site’s content. To some extent, this puts you in control of making the search engines aware of your latest content. Of course, it doesn’t force the search engines to do your bidding, but it tends to make it easier for users to find your new pages more quickly.

So, what is a sitemap?

As mentioned above, there are many possible forms of sitemaps, but we’ll concentrate on the most useful kind, the XML sitemap format created and promulgated by sitemaps.org. This protocol, currently known as “Sitemap 0.90,” is maintained and endorsed jointly by Google, MSN, Yahoo, and Ask, so you know it is pretty much a universal standard.

An XML sitemap consists of a list of pages on your Web site, and standard information about each page. Here is an example:

< url >
< loc >http://www.freelancesubmit.com/Index.htm< /loc >
< lastmod >2008-04-07< /lastmod >
< changefreq >never
< priority >0.3
< /url >

…

< url >

< loc >http://www.freelancesubmit.com/Services.htm< /loc >
< lastmod >2008-04-07
< changefreq >weekly
< priority >0.8
< /url >

…

Don’t worry about the technical details of formatting the XML. We’ll talk about tools that will create this for you in a moment.

There are three things to notice about each entry:

1. LastMod. Tell the search engines the last date (and time) you changed this page. That will tell them which ones they ought to index right away, and which ones they can ignore.

2. ChangeFreq. In case you’re not updating your sitemap all the time, this will give the search engines a clue as to how often they ought to check each page.

3. Priority. This tells the search engines the relative importance of this page, compared to all the other pages in your site.

In assigning a value for “Priority,” on a scale of 0.0 to 1.0, determine which pages are most important and which are least important within your site. We’re not telling the search engines that this “Services” page is in the 80th percentile of all pages on the Web, but it is far more important than the “Index” page within this site. That’s where we want our visitors to end up.

It’s easy to identify pages within your site which are lowest priority. Some examples:

- Privacy Policy - “Contact us” - “About us”

Please don’t misunderstand this. It’s not that your “Privacy Policy” page is unimportant and so you might as well not have one. It’s that your “Privacy Policy” is important enough to take for granted: Your visitors will find it when they need it. But for search engine purposes, you’d rather direct them to the pages where you actually do your business.

So, how do you create a sitemap?

There are a number of software tools that will create a sitemap by reading your site’s content. You will have to adjust the results, especially the “Priority” settings, but most of these do a pretty good job. Search the Web for “sitemap generator,” or for any of the following specific free tools:

- SitemapDoc - XML-Sitemaps - AuditMyPC Google Sitemap Generator

And once you have your sitemap, what do you do with it?

There are three things to do, in sequence:

1. Place the sitemap file into the root directory of your Web server, alongside your main “index” file. And each time you update it, place the new copy there.

2. Notify the major search engines of your new sitemap file each time you update it. For Google, this means to submit it from within “Webmaster Tools.” For other major search engines, search on that search engine for “submit sitemap,” and you’ll probably find where to enter the URL of your sitemap file.

3. Place a reference to the sitemap file in your robots.txt file, as “Sitemap: http://www.freelancesubmit.com/sitemap.xml”. This will make sure that any search engine will find it, even those that you did not submit it to directly. You only need to do this once, unless you change the name or location of your sitemap file.

Once you have your sitemap created and submitted, don’t forget to maintain it. Each time you add a page to your Web site, add it to your sitemap. Each time you update a page on your Web site, update its “lastmod” setting in your sitemap. Try adjusting the “priority” of your pages from time to time to see if it improves the performance of that particular page. And each time you modify your sitemap, resubmit it to the major search engines.

Pay per click advertising will cost you but if you do it right, it should make you money. If you are running pay per click advertising campaign and more money is going out than coming in, something is not right. Here are 5 steps to targeting the right keywords and minimizing costs.

Are your keywords too broad ?

Let’s just say you have developed an amazing diet drink that is safe, effective, tasty and will guarantee that people will lose 15 lbs in 30 days. You know you have a product that is a winner and are excited about marketing it on the World Wide Web. However, you are relatively new to the Web and pick keywords that are too general and expensive like ‘dieting’ or ‘weight loss’. Not only are you perhaps disappointed by your PPC advertising results but it will likely be draining your bank account. This is why niche keywords are so important. Look at bidding on keywords such as ‘weight loss supplement’ or ‘weight loss drink’. Go to Overture or Word Tracker and find keywords that are more niche oriented and not so competitive.

Is your ad dull or attention getting ?

It is worthwhile to spend some time learning about effective copy writing. It could be the difference between mediocrity and success. You want to know how to get someone’s attention. Unfortunately saying “I have the best diet drink on the planet” doesn’t work. You have to motivate and inspire people to take their time to look at what you have to offer. And, in pay per click advertising you have to do it in very few words. This can be a challenge. Learn the words that sell or attract or grab someone’s attention like “Must see”, “Quick results”, “New…”, “The truth…”, “Groundbreaking…”, “Instant…”

Double Check your URL !

Sounds like a no-brainer but many times people either misspell their URL or send someone to their home page instead of the page that directly relates to their question. In other words, you may have a website that is dedicated to weight loss but in your pay per click advertising, you want to direct them specifically to your diet drink. So, you would want your URL to read http://www.myweightlosssite.com/dietdrink.html. There is nothing more frustrating to the website visitor than having to go hunting for the information. Your job is to make it easy to find and informative. If they have to look long, they will leave. These are dollars lost to you.

What is your competition doing ?

It is likely that your competitors who have a high PR (page rank) and continue to advertise, are doing something right. Learn from those who are successful. While the differences may seem subtle to you, in the World of PPC advertising a word or sentence can discourage or invite a potential website visitor.

What should my title be for my PPC ad ?

Plain and simple use the keyword that is being searched on. Don’t get fancy or creative here. If someone is looking for diet drink then your ad title is ‘diet drink’.
Give the website visitor what they want.

The bidding war is on

Try your best not to get caught in the bidding war game. There are plenty of ways to drive traffic to your site without spending a fortune. General keywords will always have high prices like ‘dieting.’ Don’t fall for the trap. Most refined keywords will have lower priced bids but are excellent because they will target your traffic. A Website visitor may only be looking for diet recipes and dislike diet drinks. They are not your customer. Same for the website visitor who may want to tone-up while they are dieting. The more specific you can target your market, the better you will do.

Two other tips: If all the bids are around 25 cents and the lead bid is at $5.00, you know someone is trying to own the number 1 position. If you want to have fun bid $4.99 and they will get nailed $5.00 for every click and you will only pay 26 cents if they click on your ad. Warning though: if you want to play this game, keep an eye out so they don’t drop their bid. I sometimes do this as a temporary measure to bring someone back to fair playing grounds.

Secondly, keep any eye on all of your bids. People do change what they are willing to bid on any given keyword or search term. I do an overview every few days.

The test results are back

One last key to good pay per click advertising is testing your ads. You can set up two different campaigns and rotate them for the same period of time. What you might learn could surprise you and benefit your bank account!
