I have seen soo many people searching places where they can get free domain names. Truth is there aren’t free domains. If it’s a TLD then someone has to pay for it. while ago forums like Namepros.com offered Domain registration for their forum currency. You could earn currency by doing small jobs for other members like forum posting and use the forum currency you earned to register domains. But not anymore. None of these forums offer domain registration anymore.

Some take these .co.cc names thinking these are real domain names. but those are not. technically these are sub domains. Real domain name is co.cc and you are getting a subdomain like yourSite.co.cc. I don’t think setting up your only or main site on someone else subdomain is a good idea. These are not Free Domain Names and Also if owner decide to shut down or sell main site you ll loose your site and traffic both.

These days domains are not expensive as they used to be. If you have a Paypal account or Credit card then you can buy a .info Domain name for $1.99 at Godaddy.com.  You can buy a .com domain around $7.50 with Godaddy discount codes.

If you don’t have Paypal or credit card still there are ways to get a TLD domain name. Goto few top web master forums like Digitalpoint, Namepros and Sitepoint your a service you can provide. for example forum posting or Social bookmarking. Offer a good price and Ask the member who request service to buy the domain and move to your account. If you are  giving them a bargain price I don’t think buyers would mind doing this.
